A GLIPMSE OF MSAS’ JOURNEY
MSAS was first set up as a freight forwarding company until it became a one-stop logistics service provider.
Initially, the company started as a forwarding branch of the international company under the Ocean Group PLC in United Kingdom. It was originally known as Mc Gregor Swire Air Services Ltd.
In 1980s, it commenced its operation in Brunei Darussalam through an agency, subsequently, MSAS merged with an international freight forwarding company – EXEL Ltd.
Due to streamlining and requirements to offer dedicated service to customers in 1990s, it was necessary to form a local company that still adheres to MSAS EXEL’s standards. Mr. Lawrence Rathinam, one of the founders, stuck with its original abbreviation and enhanced the name relating to business trend or global forwarding and logistics, thus, renaming the company to “Multimodal Sea & Airfreight Services Sdn Bhd”.
On the 16th of February 1990, MSAS was finalized under a Brunei partnership.
The two leading international freight forwarders, Deustche Post DHL AG and EXEL Logistics have merged in year 2005 and since Multimodal is associated with EXEL, it was prudent for DHL to appoint Multimodal as their global freight forwarder and supply chain provider in Brunei Darussalam.
DHL chose MSAS as their main subcontractor for all their global freight forwarder and supply chain services in Brunei Darussalam.
Being a future-oriented Company that is resilient in adopting with the changes in the economy and the challenges of freight forwarding industry, in year 2020, MSAS started to expand the network by joining the alliances of independent international freight forwarders such as Infinite Connections (IFC8) and Global Logistics Alliance (GLA) in order to build a solid platform of stronger connections globally. Through these associations, MSAS can further secure the best value, cost-effective and efficient services for the advantages and benefits of the Company’s clienteles.
